GENERAL REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Cañon City High School graduation requirements include 16.5 credits of required courses and a minimum of 8.5 elective credits for a total of 25 credits. It is possible for students to earn 32 credits in four years to help them prepare for individual career goals. Specific required courses are listed on page 6. Counselors constantly assist with class selection and are glad to provide additional individual assistance when it is requested. In general, students are placed in classes according to ability level and previous preparation but will not be allowed to select classes below their level as determined by counselors and teachers.
To be classified as a full-time student, a student must be enrolled for the equivalent of three 90-minute blocks of instruction. Four subjects is a maximum class load each quarter for all students. A student may take a fifth class if they choose, but the class will be graded as pass/fail and not count towards GPA, total grade points or class rank. If a semester class is dropped at the quarter the withdrawal (W) will be noted on the student’s transcript. Student eligibility for co-curricular and extra curricular programs requires students to be enrolled in a minimum of 2.5 credits per semester. Quarter grades are permanent transcript grades. All Freshmen and Sophomores are required to take four classes.
TRANSFER AND HOME SCHOOLED STUDENTS
Transfer students will be expected to carry a normal load for grade level attained at the time of transfer into the district. The student will be responsible for district requirements while enrolled at Cañon City High School. Cañon City High School will accept transcripts from the home-based educational program and award pass/fail grading for each course. Grades from home-based educational programs do not count towards GPA, total grade points or class rank.
BOUNDARY WAIVER STUDENTS
Boundary waivers are required for all students who live outside the boundaries of the Cañon City School District. Interviews are required with a building administrator, parents/guardians, and the student. Administration reserves the right to refuse admission to any student who has been expelled from any other school district or who has a history of behavioral problems, attendance issues or poor academic performance.
