October Board Bits
As we welcome the changing season, I would like to welcome our newest Board Member, Lisa Beicker. The Beickers have two sons attending Mountain View, and we are excited to bring Lisa’s energy and fresh ideas to the Board. We hope to complete the board transition at our upcoming meeting on October 12th officially welcoming our 5th member.
As you know, our Board Members are parents of current Mountain View students. We share the same expectations, hopes and concerns for our students and school as all parents. If you have a comment or concern, know that we are available. Whether it’s a quick question after school during pick-up or you would like to have a phone conversation, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We as Board Members will do our best to answer questions about policy, but will usually direct you to Mrs. Sartori for questions or comments about daily procedures, activities or discipline. Our meetings are open to the public; visitors are always welcome. Meetings are generally held the 2nd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 p.m. The agenda will be posted at the front door of MVCKS at least 24 hours before each meeting.
Our last “Board Bits” referenced volunteerism, and I would like to mention a couple things from this past month. I had the pleasure of accompanying the 2nd grade class on their field trip to the “bug museum”. Mrs. Powley and Mrs. Martin did a wonderful job of engaging (and corralling) the kids, but we were all struck by the fact that 20 parents were along for the trip. If you have been on a MVCKS field trip you will find that this kind of parental participation is not uncommon, and it is a big reason for our school’s continued success! I would also like to mention Tim Payne’s work crew of volunteers who did some roof repair in September. That kind of volunteerism not only saves us dollars, but it’s nice to know the job was done right. Thanks guys!
Finally, we all deserve a pat on the back for another successful Cookie Dough fundraiser. Thank you to the Booster Club, staff, parents, and students for all your hard work. The almost $15,000.00 raised will be a big help in continuing the quality education offered at MVCKS. Volunteers will be needed to help distribute the boxes, so if your schedule is clear we could certainly use the help October 13th.
