Christo and Jeanne-Claude's
"
Over The River" Comes to Cañon City

The Arkansas River has been identified as an ideal location for world-renowned artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude's temporary art installation, "Over The River." Christo plans to suspend 5.9 miles of silvery, luminous fabric panels high above the Arkansas River at eight areas along a 42-mile stretch between Salida and Cañon City.

From the water level, rafters, kayakers and canoeists on the Arkansas River will view blue sky, white cloud formations and mountain skyline through the fabric. Cars on Highway 50 will also get a unique view from the roadway, where the fabric will reflect the sky.

"Over the River" is being funded entirely by Christo, who is currently working to obtain the necessary permits so that his team can begin the installation process. The Bureau of Land Management is currently overseeing an Environmental Impact Statement for the project. Christo is hoping to exhibit "Over The River" for two consecutive weeks in August 2014.

The artist hopes "Over The River" will provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for local residents and visitors from around the world. For more information, visit
