Special recognition goes out to Allen Hayes from the Cañon City High School Army JROTC Drill Team. This young man displayed tremendous concentration and attention to detail and he was the runner up, of more than 225 competitors, in the Individual Drill and Ceremony competition at the Colorado State University Drill Meet on 01-28-2017. A splendid performance by a Cadet that truly sets the example for others to emulate.

GATE LEGO Simple Machines Challenge

Third Graders at Harrison School competed last night in the LEGO Simple Machines Challenge in Colorado Springs. Their task was to build a machine that would take mini marshmallows from a mining area to various places on the mat. The places on the mat were worth different point values. The machine requirements were to have three moving parts and use at least two simple machines. The students could put the marshmallows into the machine, but only the machine could drop them on the mat.The design challenge was an exercise in teamwork, problem solving, and creativity. Mrs. Konty received a grant from the Challenger Learning Center to make this possible! Way to go Mrs. Konty, Blake, Broden, Terrence, and Dustin! You represented Canon City Schools well last night.

Cañon City High School seeks donations for Fun Fest event

For seniors at Cañon City High School, attending Fun Fest the day before graduation has become a rite of passage.

"It's part of our heritage. It's part of our county history," said Shad Johnson, an event organizer and the treasurer of the Cañon City School Board.

With games, prizes and dinner, the May event, which focuses on keeping seniors safe before graduation, is entering its 29th year. Ahead of this year's event, set for May 24, organizers are looking for donations to help fund it.

Cañon City Tigers take first at home invitational

he Cañon City Tigers wrestling team took first place Saturday at its home invitational that featured 12 teams. The Tigers won the tournament with 271.5 points.
