Important School Sports Update from Mr. Braiden, our Athletic Director

Find out what sports will be available this year for our middle school students.

Dear Falcon Families,

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of our lives in many ways. Our middle school sports are no exception. Middle schools are technically not part of CHSAA, the governing body for high school sports, however as a district and as a league, we have determined it is best that we follow CHSSA guidelines.

What this means is that the only sport to take place this fall will be cross country. Cross country practice will begin on Monday, August 17. Also due to COVID restrictions, some of the bigger meets had to be cancelled. Currently we have 4 meets scheduled: Sept. 10 in Canon City, Sept. 18 in Buena Vista, Sept. 25 in Salida, and Oct. 1 in Woodland Park. We are also limited in the number of athletes that can compete at a meet. No more than 10 runners of each gender will be allowed.

All the remaining sports will take place after December of this year. Unfortunately this will mean that our already short middle school seasons will be further abbreviated. The current seasons dates are as follows: Boys Basketball 1/4 to 2/1, Girls Basketball 2/1 to 2/24, Wrestling 2/1 to 2/24, Football 3/8 to 4/14, Volleyball 3/1 to 3/29, and Track 4/19 to 5/21.

Thank you for our patience during this challenging time. We are determined to provide as many athletic opportunities as possible to our students, while balancing those opportunities with the necessity of protecting the health of both students and adults.

Go Falcons!
