Important Letter from Mr. Oliver Regarding School Reopening

Please read for important information about our reopening.

Dear Falcon Families:

I would like to welcome  you all back to CCMS and offer a warm welcome to the new parents at all grade levels who will be joining us this school year. The CCMS campus is very busy and very different than it has been in the past and we are very excited to watch our new campus grow out of the ground. Your students will see many changes this year in the campus as they continue middle school and we will do our best to share those changes with you as soon as we can.

Our instructional staff this year will be almost the same with two slight changes. We will welcome a new 7th grade math teacher, 8th grade science teacher and a special education teacher to our team. These additions and our already strong staff are very excited to welcome your students back this school year.

Our 1st day of school for 6th graders will be a full day on the 17th of August, our 7th and 8th graders will be welcomed to campus on Tuesday the 18th. Students will be given a tour of the campus, some time to get adjusted to schedules and a chance to run through the routine of school. Unfortunately, we will not be able to welcome parents to campus this day as we have in the past, due to current COVID related restrictions, we will however be working hard on a plan that will allow us to get parents involved as quickly as possible.

We will not be able to let students come into the commons this year to eat prior to the start of school, we will still have grab and go breakfast that will be served to students as they enter the building if they wish to purchase it. Our bell schedule is below, while students typically show up on campus early, we are asking parents to get them to campus as close to 7:40 am as possible.

1st bell at 7:50
Tardy bell at 7:55
Last bell at 3:25

½ a day ends at 12:25
Early release ends at 1:25

This year we will have students gather in three separate locations by grade level. 6th graders should be dropped in the parent drop lane just off of 14th St. or Main St. They will gather on the baseball field. 7th graders should use the same drop locations but they will gather in front of the school on the Main St. side. 8th graders should be dropped off on 12th or Greenwood and will gather on the Football field. This will allow us to keep students in cohorts as much as we can as well as provide supervision.

Schedules for students will look differently than they ever have within Infinite Campus, students will have Math, Science, Social Studies and English as well as two Life Skills classes. Students will see  three classes a day, two times per day, then the other three classes on the next day. This rotation will allow us to give students the same amount of seat time in a normal school year while adhering to CDE and CDPHE rules for adult contacts per day. Students and staff will also be required to wear a mask at all times while inside a building and we will take temperatures on a daily basis to help stop the spread of COVID-19. If students do not have a mask or refuse to wear one they will not be allowed to enter the building or attend school until they have one.

This year will look and feel a little different than years in the past, however, please know that the staff of Canon City Middle school is very excited to have students back in our buildings this year. Canon City Middle School administration will do our best to communicate all information we receive as quickly as possible regarding any and all changing situations with your students' health and safety.

Thank you
Jesse Oliver
