About the Teacher:

Hi! My name is Mr. De Herrera and I am very excited to be your teacher this year! We are going to have a fun time exploring and learning many new things. Our classroom also has a new look this year. The classroom space feels amazing.  Here is a little more information about me.
I grew up in the San Luis Valley. I graduated from Antonito High School and received my teaching degree from Adams State College in 2001. This will be my 18th year of teaching and my 4th year at MVCKS! Go Wolves!!! I taught kindergarten for two years and just finished 14 years in First Grade and I taught one year as a paraprofessional. It has been a great career and I love teaching first grade!

Thank you for letting me pass on my knowledge to your children here at MVCKS! - Tobias De Herrera

About our Assistant:

Mrs. Regina Perkins will be our teacher assistant. This will be our second year teaching together. We will make an awesome team. Here is a little information about her: I am Regina Perkins and I am so excited to be in First Grade as the Aide. I was born and raised right here in Canon City and am so glad I still get to call it home. I graduated from CSU-Pueblo with a degree in accounting, and worked in the paint industry for many years. This will be my third year at Mountain View and my second year in 1st Grade.
I am married and have 2 boys, Matt who will be a junior this year, and Luke who will be in 3rd grade at MVCKS. My boys and their activities keep me very busy outside of school.
I am looking forward to getting to know each one of you, and can’t wait for all our adventures in 1st Grade!!

About the Class: First graders will grow by leaps and bounds throughout the year. Each child is at a different level and our first priority is to foster a love for learning.  We will be challenging the students each day to problem solve and think for themselves as the work gets a little harder and more serious.  We push them because we love them! We want you and your child to know that we believe that each and every one of the kids in our class is capable of success and is a blessing. As parents, you put your faith and trust in us each day as we spend time together at school. Each child has a special place in our hearts.
