What's So Special About Language Arts?
Language Arts can be described as the study of how people process and document the human experience. Since humans have been able, we have used philosophy, literature, religion, art, music, history and language to understand and record our world. Knowledge of these records of human experience -- whether expressed through novels, paintings, poetry, essays, myths, or other mediums -- gives us the opportunity to feel a sense of connection to those who have come before us, as well as to our contemporaries, and it provides a bridge to those who will come after us. What a privilege it is to help our middle school scholars understand the great responsibility that comes with this reality.
Middle School Language Arts is the forum for students to explore and understand the past, present, and future through literature and writing. By reading various genres of literature, students will broaden, relate to, and share each other’s perspectives. Their voices will not only be heard through discussions about literature, but through their writing as well. Through encouragement, support, and fun, Language Arts will successfully educate and hopefully inspire our young writers and readers to become authors themselves.
