Welcome to the 2021/22 school year!
I am so excited to begin a new school year with the Lincoln School of Science & Technology community! This will be my 3rd year serving as the leader of this outstanding school and my 17th year in education overall. My wife and I are proud to call Cañon City our home, along with our children. Our son is a 4th grader and our daughter is a 2nd grader at Lincoln. I am originally from this community and graduated from Cañon City High School.
This is going to be an exciting school year as we move largely past the restrictions that were in place to keep us safe during the pandemic. We will certainly continue to work as a district in cooperation with our public health officials to ensure we are making informed decisions with how we operate our schools in Cañon City. However, I am optimistic that we will enjoy a much more “normal” school year than the last two have been. So, what are we up to?
This year we will realize our dream of moving from a part-time art program into a full-time Science Studio! While we will still have all the same art standards, we are fortunate to now be able to blend science more effectively into the program. We plan to reimagine our greenhouse and bring it back to life this year, too. Our STEM program, Project Lead the Way, is moving full-steam ahead with our K-2 students learning the design process and 3-5 students learning to build and program robotics.
Our staff is very excited to get back to the important job of working with your children. I consider myself fortunate to work with such a focused and dedicated group of people each day. Please read through our handbook. Much time has been spent making sure it is up-to-date and relevant for our students and their families. Also make sure you stay current with school news on our Facebook page and YouTube channel. Feel free to reach out to me any time!
Sincerely,
Garrett Olguin
