Canon City Schools Reopening Plan 2020-2021

One week ago today, the Colorado Department of Public Health and the Environment, along with the Colorado Department of Education, published revised guidance for school reopening. They provided us more opportunity to offer in-person learning for our students, and less restriction on key areas such as transportation. Since that time, CCSD has worked diligently to fine tune our plan and communicate it to the public. Thank you for the patience and flexibility as we’ve worked through this challenging period.

As a result, we have worked to create an educational plan that is adaptable, lives within the safety guidance handed down to us by the CDPHE, and provides as much routine and support as we can for our students and community. You’ll note that the guidance parameters are somewhat different at the varying grade levels. That’s why the plan is distinct at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. This is all due to safety measures laid out by the CDPHE and CDE.

We recognize that school is a foundation of community, and also that school is about so much more than just academics. For these reasons, we’ve worked to find creative solutions to bring back school as safely as possible.

Clearly, our operations are subject to change dependent upon guidance from local and state government. For now, however, this is our way forward. We no longer see a need for the two-week Transitional Plan that we thought we’d have to enact back in June when we crafted our original DRAFT plans.

Please note that Mountain View Core Knowledge School is using its own reopening plan, with separate details. If you are a MVCKS parent, please refer to their school plan.
