Dress Code
Parents are responsible for ensuring that their child’s clothing and attire are within dress code policy before they arrive at school.
The goal of the MVCKS dress code is to:
- Encourage the focus at school to be on learning in a safe environment
- Reduce the distractions and the competitive dress that often leads to bullying
- Simplify the expectations around clothing and attire for both parents & students
- Reduce the amount of time taken away from teaching in order to deal with clothing distractions.
Teachers, teacher assistants, and school administrators are responsible for enforcing the MVCKS dress code. Failure to adhere to the dress code will result in consequences aligned in the MVCKS dress code violation process and the discipline matrix.
Shirts:
- All shirts must be solid in color.
- All shirts must have the approved MVCKS logo except for solid-colored polos, solid-colored sweaters and solid-colored cardigans.
- Solid-colored sweaters must cover the majority of the shoulder area
- Tank tops are permitted as long as they cover the majority of the shoulder area.
- Spaghetti straps are not allowed.
- All tank tops must fully cover undergarment straps.
- All tank tops must be solid in color and have the approved MVCKS logo.
- School activity shirts (Science Fair, Choir, Band, Field Day, etc.) may be worn.
- School sports shirts (jerseys, hoodies, etc.) may be worn on game days with dress code appropriate pants.
- Student athletes are still subject to adhering to MVCKS dress code standards on game days.
- The MVCKS dress code supersedes the coach’s permissions regarding dress on said game days.
Pants and Shorts:
- All pants must be solid in color.
- All pants must be non-transparent, in good condition with no holes, distress, tears or stress marks.
- Sweatpants are not permitted.
- Solid-colored culottes, skirts, and shorts are permitted if they are no shorter than 4” above the knee.
Shoes:
Students are encouraged to wear task-appropriate shoes that support personal safety and do not hinder their ability to move quickly and/or run.
- Elementary
- All shoes must be closed-toe
- Clog type shoes with a back strap are permitted
- High-heels are not permitted
- Middle School
- Students may wear open-toed shoes with a back strap.
- Students may wear heels that do not exceed 2 inches.
Coats, Jackets & Vests:
- All hoodies and sweatshirts must be solid in color
- All hoodies and sweatshirts must have the approved MVCKS logo
- Hoods may not be on heads in the building.
- Solid color vests without MVCKS logo are permitted.
- Jackets and winter coats must have an approved MVCKS logo on them in order to be worn in the classroom.
Hats & Sunglasses:
- No hats of any type are allowed in the building.
- No sunglasses may be worn in the building.
Hair:
- Hair must be clean, a natural hair color, neat in appearance, and combed in a non-distracting style that doesn’t cover the eyes.
- Subtle hair accessories are permitted.
Makeup:
- Elementary
- Makeup is not permitted
- Body glitter is not permitted
- Middle School
- Subtle makeup is permitted
- Body glitter is not permitted
Jewelry:
- Students may wear subtle jewelry such as a classic watch, a ring, small post earrings, a necklace and/or a bracelet
- Watches with cellular capabilities are not permitted
- Distracting, excessive and/or jewelry posing a safety issue is not permitted.
Piercings and Tattoos:
- No visible body piercings other than the ears, no more than two piercings per ear.
- No visible tattoos including rub-on, Henna, or writing/drawings on skin.
Medical & Religious Exemptions:
Requests for medical or religious exemptions to the dress code must be submitted to and approved by the school administration. Each request will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to ensure compliance with both individual needs and institutional guidelines.
