Local/Fremont County Scholarships

Each year, many generous donors from our local community provide scholarships to students in Fremont County and CCHS.  These donors support students who plan to further their education whether it be a trade or technical school, certificate program, two-year/community college program or a four year institution.  

Listed below are two sections of scholarships available to CCHS students:

  • Special Applications

    • Each scholarship listed requires its own unique application 
    • Scholarships recipients are selected by the donating group or individual
  • General Application

    • Only ONE, single application needs to be completed for all scholarships listed in this section
    • Scholarship recipients are selected by the CCHS Scholarship Committee

Special Applications

Local Scholarships are selected by donating group or individual. Check information sheet for specific requirements. Applications must be returned to Mrs.Vertrees in the Counseling Office no later than .....TBD.  UNLESS OTHERWISE INDICATED on the application.  Applications will then be forwarded to designated donors.  If the application instructs you to return it to a specific location, follow the instructions.

Must be pursuing a nursing degree. Need to write an essay on why you chose to pursue a nursing degree. 

Cañon City Education Association Scholarship

Two Scholarships awarded to  graduating seniors.

$500.00

This scholarship will help provide financial assistance for advanced educational opportunities to a student seeking a career in education.

Canon City Educational Organization For Excellence, Inc. (CCEOE)

Two Scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.

$1000.00

Must continue in a Career and Technical Educational Field. Examples are welding, nurse aide, health tech, machinery, automotive tech, aircraft mechanic, beautician, or cosmetology etc. Must show good character and be able to present or speak for 10 minutes to the scholarship committee about yourself. 

Cañon City Fire Fighters Association Scholarship

One scholarship to a senior pursuing a career in Fire Science, Emergency Services or Public Service Health related field. 

$500.00

Accepted to an accredited institute of higher education.  At least a 2.5 GPA. 1st priority given to Fire Science Program, 2nd priority given to Emergency Medical Services. Open enrollment to eligible students, consideration will be given to students not currently graduating but still taking classes related to Fire Science.

Cañon City First United Methodist Church Hinshaw Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a senior

$1000.00 increasing $1000.00 each year.

Student must show extreme financial need. Pursuing either a 2 to 4 year college, or non-traditional school or trade school.  Proof of continuing financial need, along with grade reports will be requested during the year. Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.

Cañon City Geology Club Scholarship 

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior 

$1,000.00

Student interested in Earth Science. Must attend a 2yr or 4yr school of higher education. Preference given to student majoring or minoring in Earth Sciences.

Cañon City Noon Lions Club Academic Scholarship

One scholarship to graduating senior of CCHS.

$1,000.00

Committee will consider personality, character, attitude, stability, citizenship, school attendance and community service.

Cañon City Noon Lions Club Career and Technical Eduction Scholarship

One scholarship to graduating senior of CCHS

$1,000.00

Committee will consider students history of completed community service, clear career goals, experience in field of interest, GPA, character and citizenship.  Applicants must provide proof of acceptance into any accredited junior/community college, trade school, or on-line program

Cañon City Rotary Scholarship

Two scholarships to graduating senior of CCHS.

 

$3,000.00 Each

MUST be a student Rotarian.  Students will be contacted for final interview.

Christ Episcopal Church Burleigh, MacKenzie, Geary Scholarship
Three scholarships to graduating seniors. $750.00 MUST be a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Contact Christ Episcopal Church for the specific application process. 
Colorado Tau Chapter-Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority Scholarship

Two scholarships to graduating seniors

$500.00

MUST have at least a GPA of 2.5 and must submit wallet size photo with application. Must be going to college to become a teacher. 
First United Methodist Church Youth Scholarship

One or more scholarships to graduating seniors 

$500.00 or more

Student must have been an active member in the First United Methodist Church through worship attendance, youth group, Sunday school, Vacation Bible School and/or any of its other ministries for at least two years prior to graduation. 2.5 GPA or higher.

Fremont Adventure Recreation Scholarship (FAR)

Four scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.

$500 each

Must have volunteered or participated in a FAR event during the last two years.  Key factors are involvement in the organization, participation, the quality of the essay and future plans. Financial need is also considered.

Frank M. Hickey Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarships awarded to  graduating seniors. Must pursue a 4-year degree. Must attend a 4-year College/University in the state of COLORADO.

$2,000.00 each

Rank in top 20%.  Accepted to a 4 yr college or university.  Lived in Cañon City at least 2 yrs. Must show character, leadership, dependability and be active in school and community.  Financial need not necessary. Must return verification of enrollment from college/university in fall of freshman year.

Fremont County 4-H Oscar Green Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior

$500.00

Must rank in the upper 50% of the class, must have been an active 4-H-er with contributions to the 4-H program, must have taken the ACT or SAT test, needs a GPA of 2.5 or higher and have attended the high school for the last 3 years. 

Fremont County 4-H David Boughan Memorial  Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.

$350.00

Senior active in Fremont 4-H for past 3 yrs. Rank in the top 50% of class.  Need to have taken the ACT or SAT. Must be able to show a valuable contribution to the 4-H program. 

Fremont County 4-H Franklin and Louise Nash Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.  

1/$1,000.00 or 2/$500.00

Applications are also available through Fremont County 4-H. Check application for qualifications.  

Fremont County Cattlewomen’s Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior who will attend a college, university or trade school.

$1,000.00

Student must have at least a 2.0 GPA.  Must attend a school in Colorado. Interested in continuing his/her education in an agricultural or related field. 

Fremont Community Foundation Primary Scholarship

Two scholarships awarded to graduating seniors who will attend a college, university or trade school

$1,000.00

Must be a current resident of Fremont County, and must have an Expected Family Contribution (from FAFSA) of $13,000 or less

Fremont County Engineering Scholarship

One to Three scholarships for Fremont County resident.  Renewable. Awarded to one or more student(s).

$2,400.00 ($300.00 per semester for 4 years).

Must be accepted to Accredited Engineering School.  Include letter of acceptance. Seeking a 4 YEAR ENGINEERING DEGREE. 

Fremont School and Public Employees Retirement Association Academic Scholarship (Academic)

One scholarship awarded to a qualified graduating senior.

$500.00

Must have attended CCHS for at least two full years. Have been accepted to an accredited post-secondary school-college, community college in Colorado.  Must have a GPA of 3.0 or above. Please see application for details.

Fremont School and Public Employees Retirement Association Career and Technical Education Scholarship (CTE)

One scholarship awarded to a qualified graduating senior

$500.00

Must be planning to attend a junior/community college or trade school in Colorado.  Attended CCHS for 2 years, GPA of 2.5 or higher, show broad interests and leadership, and the maturity necessary to succeed in higher education.

Harrison K-8 PTO Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a student who has attended Harrison School and is a graduating senior

$500.00

Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Good character. See specific requirements on cover sheet of application.  

High Country Bank Scholarship

One or more scholarships awarded to qualified graduating seniors.

$1000.00

Must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Candidate will be selected based on his/her participation in academics as well as school and community activities. Must demonstrate exceptional citizenship and leadership skills.

Home Bi-Ed Scholarship

One or more scholarships awarded to a graduating senior

$2,500.00

Must have participated in Home Bi-Ed classes like welding, automotive, machining, and/or ADDA. Financial need is a must for this scholarship. 

Knights of Columbus Council  2553 Scholarship

Three scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.

$1,000.00 Each

Must be Catholic.  Please see application for details.

Let There Be Light Scholarship

One or more scholarship(s) awarded to graduating senior(s).

Amount varies depending on school attending $500.00 up to $1,000.00

Applicant must be a first generation college or trade school student (no member of your family has received an A.A or B.A./B.S. degree) attending college or a trade school with the goal of earning a certificate, A.A., or B.A./B.S. degree. The high school applicant must have a 2.5 GPA or higher. The son/daughter of a member of Rotary is ineligible. The applicant must fill out the attached form. Finalists will be interviewed by a scholarship committee as part of the application process.  Please see application for details.  

Lincoln Elementary P.T.O.  Alumni Scholarship

One scholarship for a student who have attended LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL.

$300.00

Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA.  Good character. See specific requirements on cover sheet of application.  

Maureen Baxter Memorial Nursing Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior 

$1,000.00

Must be pursuing a degree in nursing. Demonstrate evidence of good character and maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA

McKinley Elementary Alumni Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a student who started and completed (or received most of ) his/her elementary education at McKinley

$500.00

Acceptable grades, emphasis on effort, incentive, pleasing personality and acceptable behavior. Please fill out application completely. 

Mountain View Core Knowledge School Scholarship

Various scholarships awarded to seniors who have graduated from MVCKS

K-8 $200.00/   5-8 $100.00

Must have graduated from MVCKS and plan on pursuing a higher education. Please see application for more details.

Mt. Moriah Masonic Scholarship

One scholarship to a graduating senior enrolled in a Colorado institute of higher learning.  

$1000.00

Submit a letter of recommendation from teacher, church leader or employer. High class rank required.

P.E.O. Chapter AC Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to graduating female seniors.

$500.00

Student must have at least a 2.75 GPA.  Awarded on the basis of academic excellence, character, and leadership qualities without regard to financial need.

P.E.O Chapter DK Scholarship

Two scholarships awarded to  graduating females.

$1,000.00 paid in two payments of $500.00

Two scholarships awarded to  graduating females. Must be a female planning on attending an accredited Community College or University. Must show financial need. Demonstrate a commitment to the pursuit of advanced learning. See application for specific details regarding qualifications and distribution of funds.

P.E.O. Chapter FC Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating female.

$500.00

  1. Outstanding academic achievement.
  2. Accepted and enrolled in an institution of high education.
  3. Record of excellent citizenship & character traits.
  4. Demonstrate a commitment to the pursuit of advanced learning. (See application for specific details.)
Rocky Mountain Children’s Discovery Center Brieonna (Sanders) Samora Memorial Scholarship

One or more scholarships awarded to a graduating senior

$500.00

Must be have been enrolled at RMCDC as a child.  See application for details. 

Royal Gorge Artists Association Scholarship

One or more scholarships awarded to a graduating senior.

Up to $1,000.00 yr / $500.00 per semester 

Must at least take an art class at the university level (includes visual or performing arts)  3.0 GPA or higher. 

Royal Gorge Association of REALTORS Scholarship

Six scholarships awarded to graduating seniors.

$1,000.00

2.75 or higher GPA. Base on community involvement, scholastic improvement and need.

Royal Gorge Chapter Veteran Motor Car Clubs of America Scholarship (VMCCA)

One scholarship awarded to students pursuing a 4 year degree.

$1,000.00

Must have attended CCHS at least 2 yrs.  Have been accepted to a 4 year college or university.  Have a 3.2 GPA or better. Show evidence of broad interests, leadership, character, citizenship and maturity.  Be active in school, church and or community.

Royal Gorge Route Railroad Leah Greksa Memorial Scholarship

Three scholarships awarded to graduating seniors

See application, weighted more for seasonal workers but some scholarships will be awarded to other students that fill out and answer the questions at a high level. 

Sunflower Bank  Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to qualified graduating seniors

$500.00

Must have acceptable grades, acceptable behavior, and community involvement.

The Order of the Sons of Italy in America Scholarship

Various scholarships are awarded to seniors

Must attend the lodge function if awarded a scholarship. Must be planning on attending an accredited college or university. Have to be able to show Italian lineage.

Tiger Pride Booster Club Scholarship

Two scholarships awarded to  graduating seniors

$250.00

Emphasis on overall student involvement in activities in high school and community. Without regard to financial need. A strong cover letter is recommended 

VFW Ladies Auxiliary  Royal Gorge Post 4061 Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.

$500.00

Must have good classroom attitude, general citizenship, strength of character and have a GPA of a “C” or better.  Financial need is a contributing factor. 

Zonta-Young Women in Public Affairs Award

One scholarship awarded to a graduating female senior

$500.00

This student has a chance to compete at a higher level if selected for this scholarship.  Please see application for qualifications

Ellis E. Fuller Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in any accredited institution in the United States.

$2,000.00

Rank in upper 20% of class.  Show strength of character, evidence of leadership, emotional stability.  Without regard to financial need.

Fred Ritzman Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a student planning to major in engineering.

$500.00

Accepted into school of engineering.  Rank in upper 25% of class. Optimum number of credits in math and science.  Live in Cañon City at least 1 year. If equal, preference given to student enrolling at the University of Colorado.

Jeff Ankrum Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.

$500.00

VICA member, interested in education beyond high school.  Selected by vocational teachers.

John & Mary Dilley Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship to a graduating senior.  Cannot major in fine arts, drama or music.  Without regard to financial need.

$3,000.00

Rank in upper 15%.  Must have taken a PSAT, ACT or SAT.  Good classroom attitude, cooperation, general citizenship, strength of character, leadership potential, emotional maturity & stability.

J.S. Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a senior intending to become a teacher.

Academic achievement important as well as financial need.

Keith and Sherry Thomas Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.

$500.00 

3.0 grade point average, upper 25%.  Participation and performance in extra-curricular activities, citizenship and quality of the individual.

Kellenberger CCHS Honor Graduate Award

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior. 

$500.00

Must have shown scholastic excellence, leadership qualities and an interest in helping others in their school and community.

Ruth Johnson Memorial Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior

$1,000.00

Rank in the upper 40% of the class. Academic performance, extra-curricular activities, and citizenship will be considered.  Financial need is a consideration. 

Samuel & Merle W. Sherrill Scholarship

One scholarship awarded to a graduating senior.

$1,000.00

Aid in furthering education.  A senior with good character who shows special aptitude in chemistry, metallurgy.

The J. Harrison & Dorotha M. Hawthorne Memorial Scholarship

Two scholarship awarded to graduating seniors.
