Congratulations Canon City High School Class of 2020! Your graduation ceremony is right around the corner. We've been working hard to make the ceremony as close to normal as possible, and we just received permission from the Fremont County Department of Public Health and Environment this week. Here are the details:
- Not later than Monday, July 27th, please email Sara Marietta (sara.marietta@canoncityschools.org) to let her know if you will attend the ceremony. If we do not hear from you, we will not plan for your participation. If a student will not be here on July 30th, an immediate family member may stand-in for the student if desired.
- Graduation Practice on July 30th at 5:30 PM at Citizens' Stadium: Please drive to the student parking lot, park near the stadium, and stay in your car until you are approached by a school official and directed where to go. Please wear cool and comfortable clothing but have your cap and gown in your car so that you are ready to change during a break that will occur between 6:50 and 7:20; Please bring water to keep in your car for the break; we will provide water on the field during the practice and ceremony. Wearing a facemask is mandatory for both practice and the ceremony--we will provide the masks upon your arrival. From 5:30 until 6:50 PM, we will conduct a ceremony practice. Please ensure you are staying 6 feet away from all participants at all times. At the practice, we will also be hosting Mr. Shad Johnson who will be conducting Funfest give away events. While we were unable to hold a traditional Funfest, we will still have fun, enjoy each other's company, and give away thousands of dollars to your class during the graduation practice event. You must be present to win! Honor and PCC chords will also be distributed at the practice.
- Graduation ceremony: The single graduation ceremony for the entire class will take place at Citizens' Stadium on July 30th at 7:30 PM immediately following the practice.
- Unfortunately, our permission for the ceremony is limited to 250 people. This means that we cannot allow any spectators to attend the ceremony, but we will be live streaming the entire event on as many platforms (Facebook, YouTube, etc.) as we can (more details to follow).
- After the break and not later than 7:20, graduates will return from their cars, dressed in your cap and gown, to your designated spot in line as shown during the graduation practice. There is no need for you to wait for an official to move to your spot in line upon return to the stadium, but you will practice 6-foot separation at all times during the ceremony and to and from your cars. In order to participate in the ceremony, you will need to bring and wear a mask; we will remind you to take it off for your picture!
- There will be a professional photographer at the event and each student's picture will be taken immediately after receiving a diploma and while on stage. A single photo of each graduate will be provided free-of-charge; additional photo packages may be purchased through the photographer. On stage, each student will receive an empty diploma jacket cover. At the bottom of the stage on a table, each student will be able to pick up their diploma before returning to his or her seat. The event is also being filmed and a copy of the video will be provided to all who want it free-of-charge.
- The ceremony is scheduled to last approximately 1:15 minutes. At its conclusion, we ask that each student returns to his or her car and leave the parking lot, we cannot host congregations of people without proper social distancing at the ceremony, so if students wish to have photos taken with their classmates, we ask that this is done before the ceremony and at an alternate location.
