Our newest Principal in the Cañon City School District is Garrett Olguin!

Mr. Olguin is in his first year as Principal of Lincoln School of Science and Technology. He is a Cañon City native, having attended Skyline Elementary School, Cañon City Middle School, and Cañon City High School, graduating as a member of the Class of 1999.

After high school, Mr. Olguin earned a Bachelor's degree from CSU-Pueblo, allowing him to teach middle school first at Mountain View Core Knowledge School and then Harrison K-8. Garrett then became a GED Instructor at the Colorado State Penitentiary.

After earning a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from Adams State University, Mr. Olguin served two years as Assistant Principal at Harrison School before earning the leadership role at Lincoln School of Science and Technology.

The hardest thing about being a principal? Mr. Olguin says, "juggling all of the demands that come from all facets of running a school. There is a tremendous amount of pressure to accomplish everything that needs to be done each day while balancing my own family and personal life."

The most rewarding part of his job? "Working with students and their families to find whatever is necessary to help that child succeed in school." Mr. Olguin adds, "I love spending time the time it takes getting to know everyone in our educational community."

As our newest Principal, what advice would Mr. Olguin give someone who aspires to lead a school? "Be ready! This is far more demanding than anything I've ever done. However, you should also be ready to enjoy the satisfaction of working alongside some of the hardest working professionals around. By this, I mean our teachers and support staff!"

Though there have certainly been some challenges, we think Mr. Olguin is off to a great start in his new role.
