At our September 9th Board of Education meeting, the Cañon City High School Student Council presented a proposal to reinstitute the homecoming week bonfire tradition.
Laiken O’Rourke, Mackenzie Roberts, and Giovanni Ramirez were on hand to represent the student body and present their plan.
After the presentation, Board President Larry Oddo instructed Superintendent Welsh to make and communicate a decision to the students. Mr. Welsh asked Director of Student Support Services Paula Buser to review the proposal and deliver a response. Here is isL
On behalf of the Board of Education and Cañon City School District Leadership, I am pleased to inform you that your request to hold a bonfire event on September 18, 2019, has been approved.
Through their preparation and planning of this event and their presentation to the Board, Giovanni, Laiken, and Mackenzie exemplified leadership, professionalism and a healthy dose of core belief number 3, an ability to take positive risks.
They clearly presented detailed safety and security practices for the event and confidently fielded a variety of inquiries from the BOE and District Leadership.
It was evident that a great deal of research, time and effort went into preparing their proposal and it was great to witness firsthand their leadership and ability to facilitate community collaboration.
We hope this will be a new of tradition CCHS students.
Have a safe day!
Paula Buser
