The Cañon City community will soon see fencing popping up around the Cañon City Middle School property as the GE Johnson Construction Company prepares to break ground on our major building upgrade. Work will first be tackled on the west side of the school facility, pretty much eliminating all current parking access to along 12th on that side of the school.
In honor of the temporary loss of this space, Cañon City Middle School librarian Karen Rogers wrote this poem:
Ode to a Parking Lot
Oh parking lot
You have served us so well
Providing a place for our vehicles to dwell.
We shall miss your worn pavement
Your crackled terrain
Your sunlight and shadows
As we headed home again.
Thanks for the memories of
Conversations held here,
You're more than a "lot"
You're a place we'll hold dear.
