The Cañon City School District has canceled classes at all of its schools on Friday, April 27, 2018, as a result of an inability to provide substitute coverage for staff who have requested leave for personal reasons, or in conjunction with a gathering to be held in Denver in support of increased education funding in Colorado.
Our goal is always to let the community know as soon as possible should a cancellation be necessary. We apologize for any disruptions to personal schedules this may cause our parents. As a district, we value our staff and respect the constitutional right of our employees to assemble and to petition our government.
We also encourage community members to put forth the effort learn more about the reasons teachers are taking this action.
This day will be treated as if it were an emergency cancellation due to dangerous weather. As of now, we have 2.5 snow days remaining so we can use one in response to this circumstance. We expect to hold classes as normal on Monday, April 30th.
As an aside, anyone wishing to apply to work as a substitute teacher in the Cañon City School District is welcome to do so at our website www.canoncityschools.org. We can always use the extra help!
