About Us

Company A, Military Department, Canon City High School
1918

The Army Junior ROTC program at Canon City High School has a long and rich history.  Founded it 1901, it's one of the oldest programs in the western United States.  When military training began at Canon City High School, the principal and other teachers at the school taught the military subjects.  All male students were required to participate during their four years at the high school.

In 1918 military training at Canon City High School reverted to the Army with the inception of the ROTC program, and instruction was conducted by activity duty personnel.

Many things have changed over the years.  Army JROTC is a well established program at our school, with approximately 20 percent of our 1,000 students participating each year.  Our instructors are retired Army officers, warrant officers, and noncommissioned officers.  In addition to our comprehensive curriculum, we also offer several extra-curricular activities that include Color Guard, Drill Team, Raider Platoon, and Rifle Team.

The JROTC program at Canon City High School is one of the best in the state of Colorado.  We consistently achieve the highest rating a school can achieve...Honor Unit with Distinction.  Our quality classes, ongoing community service, extra-curricular activities, and instruction in leadership and citizenship offer an opportunity for students that's second to none.
