Weather Update: (2/17) - Monitoring Conditions

Dear Cañon City Schools Families,

Many of you have likely seen weather reports predicting very high winds in our area tomorrow, 2.17.26. In response to those forecasts, Black Hills Energy has declared an Emergency Public Shutoff Watch in isolated portions of Fremont County.

We want you to know that we are aware of the forecast and have been in direct communication with Black Hills Energy. At this time, this is a Watch, not a Warning, which means conditions are being monitored but no shutoff has been implemented. As of now, we are proceeding with school as usual tomorrow.

Our team is also closely monitoring projected wind speeds as they relate to student transportation and bussing. The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority, and we will continue to assess conditions throughout the evening and into the morning.

Should circumstances change (whether related to power, road conditions, or transportation safety) we will communicate with families promptly using our regular notification systems.

For now, please know that we are actively monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond if needed.

Thank you for your partnership and trust.

Sincerely,

Adam Hartman
Superintendent of Schools
